Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using TamuKu!
Getting Started
What is TamuKu!?
TamuKu! is Brunei’s all-in-one marketplace app. You can buy and sell secondhand items, discover local events and markets (tamu, pasar malam, bazaars, car meets), and browse food and home business shops — all in one place.
Is TamuKu! free to use?
Yes! Creating an account, listing items, browsing, chatting, and making deals are all completely free. We also give you free listing bumps every two weeks through our Kupangs reward system.
How do I create an account?
Tap “Sign Up” on the homepage, either sign up with your email and password or continue with Google. If you sign up with email, you will verify your account with a confirmation link first. After that, you can list, browse, and chat right away.
Do I need to verify my account?
You can browse TamuKu! without verifying, but verifying your email is required before you can sell, chat, make offers, or like listings. Verifying also earns you Kupangs and makes your account look more trustworthy to other users.
Buying
How do I find items to buy?
Browse the homepage tabs (Trending and Food), open the Services tab to find local service providers, or use the search bar to find specific items. You can filter results by category, district, price range, and condition. Classes, Pets, and Jobs tabs are coming soon.
How do I make an offer on an item?
Open the listing you’re interested in, tap “Chat” to message the seller, then tap “Make Offer” to submit your price. The seller can accept, decline, or counter your offer — all within the chat.
What happens after the seller accepts my offer?
The listing is automatically marked as Reserved and hidden from other buyers. You and the seller can then arrange a meetup to complete the deal. TamuKu! will suggest safe, public meeting spots in your district.
Should I inspect the item before buying?
Absolutely. Always inspect the item thoroughly before completing the transaction. Check the condition, functionality, and authenticity. Once you confirm the deal, it’s considered final. If something isn’t right, raise it with the seller before confirming.
What if the item isn’t as described?
If you’ve completed the transaction and believe the item was misrepresented, you can raise a dispute through the app by selecting “Item not as described” and uploading evidence. Our team will review the case. The seller will have a chance to respond, and appropriate action will be taken.
Can I cancel a deal after my offer is accepted?
Yes, but cancellations affect your reliability on the platform. We encourage you to only make offers you intend to follow through on. Repeated cancellations may result in temporary restrictions.
Selling
How do I list an item for sale?
Tap the Sell (+) button in the bottom navigation, add photos (you can drag to reorder), fill in the title, price, category, condition, and description, then publish. Your listing goes live immediately.
How many photos can I upload?
You can upload multiple photos per listing. We recommend at least 3–4 photos showing the item from different angles, including any defects. Photos are automatically compressed for fast loading.
Can I edit my listing after posting?
Yes, you can edit your listing at any time as long as it’s still available (not reserved or sold).
How do I mark an item as sold?
Once you’ve completed the transaction with the buyer, tap “Mark as Sold” on your listing. If you marked it as sold by hand and made a mistake, you have a 1-hour window to undo it. Sales completed through an accepted in-app offer are final and cannot be undone.
What happens when my item is reserved?
When a buyer’s offer is accepted, the listing is automatically reserved and hidden from search and browse. If the deal isn’t completed within 7 days, the reservation expires and the listing becomes available again.
I got a biweekly bump — what’s that?
Every two weeks, you can bump one of your listings back to the top of search results for free. This is powered by your Kupangs balance. It’s a great way to keep your listings visible without paying anything.
Chat and Safety
Why should I use the in-app chat instead of WhatsApp?
We strongly recommend using TamuKu!’s built-in chat for all deal-related conversations. The in-app chat creates a verifiable record of your conversation, which is essential if a dispute arises. Offers, acceptances, cancellations, and system messages are all tracked automatically. Conversations outside the app cannot be used as evidence in disputes and are not protected by TamuKu!.
How do I stay safe during meetups?
After a deal is agreed, TamuKu! suggests safe public meetup spots in your district. Always meet in well-lit, public areas. Tell someone where you’re going. Inspect the item before handing over payment. If anything feels off, trust your instincts and walk away.
How do I report a user or listing?
Tap the report button on any listing or user profile and select the reason. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. If multiple users report the same listing, it’s automatically hidden pending review.
Trust and Reputation
What are trust tiers?
Every user starts as a New member and can progress through trust tiers based on their activity, reliability, and account history: • New — Just joined. Welcome! • Active — Verified account with at least 3 completed deals and 30 days on the platform. • Trusted — Verified with 7+ completed deals, 90%+ completion rate, 60+ days on the platform, and no active warnings. • Community Champion — The highest tier. Verified with 30+ completed deals, 95%+ completion rate, 60+ days on the platform, and no active warnings. Your trust tier is visible on your profile and helps other users feel confident transacting with you.
What is the completion rate?
Your completion rate shows the percentage of your deals that were successfully completed. A high completion rate (green) signals reliability. A low rate (amber or red) indicates a pattern of cancellations.
What happens if I cancel too many deals?
Repeated cancellations affect your reliability rating. You may see warning indicators on your profile, temporary restrictions on making or accepting offers, and a lower completion rate visible to other users. Active warnings also prevent you from holding the Trusted or Community Champion trust tiers until the warnings clear. The best way to avoid this is simple: only make or accept offers you intend to follow through on.
How do reviews work?
After a completed deal, both the buyer and seller can leave a review with a star rating and compliment tags. Reviews are double-blind — neither party can see the other’s review until both have submitted (or 30 days have passed). This ensures honest, unbiased feedback. You earn 5 Kupangs for leaving a review.
What does “Usually responds within...” mean?
This indicator on seller profiles shows their typical response time to new messages. It’s calculated from their recent chat activity and helps buyers know what to expect.
Events, Markets, and Food Shops
What kinds of events can I find on TamuKu!?
TamuKu! lists a wide range of local events including tamu (weekly markets), pasar malam, bazaars, car meets, workshops, pop-up sales, and community events. You can filter by event type, district, and date.
How do I list my event on TamuKu!?
Event listing is managed by approved event organisers. If you’re an event organiser and want to list your events, apply for event organiser status through the app. Once approved, you can create and manage event listings.
What are Food Shop pages?
If you run a home-based food business (kuih, cakes, cookies, prepared meals), you can create a dedicated shop page on TamuKu! with your menu, prices, dietary information, spice levels, and availability. Customers can browse your menu and tap “Chat to Order” to place an order directly.
Is the food on TamuKu! halal?
Halal status, dietary information, and any other food claims are the sole responsibility of the seller or shop operator. TamuKu! does not verify, certify, or endorse any food safety or dietary claims. If you have concerns, please ask the seller directly.
Kupangs Rewards
What are Kupangs?
