TamuKu!
Community Guidelines
Effective: March 23, 2026 | Updated: March 23, 2026
TamuKu! is built for the Brunei community. These guidelines exist to keep the platform safe, fair, and enjoyable for everyone.
1. Be Honest
Honesty is the foundation of trust on TamuKu!. Every user depends on accurate information to make good decisions.
- Describe your items truthfully. Include any defects, damage, or wear and tear.
- Use real, unedited photos of the actual item you’re selling — not stock images or photos from the internet.
- Set fair prices in BND. Don’t inflate prices with the intention of “discounting” to the real price.
- Don’t misrepresent the authenticity, brand, or origin of any item.
- If you’re a food seller, be truthful about ingredients, preparation, and dietary information.
Consequence: Listings found to contain misleading descriptions or photos may be removed. Repeated or deliberate misrepresentation will result in warnings, enhanced penalties on your account, and potential suspension.
2. Be Reliable
When you make or accept an offer, you’re making a commitment to another person. Respect their time.
- Only make offers you intend to follow through on.
- Only accept offers you intend to honour.
- Show up to meetups on time and at the agreed location.
- If you genuinely can’t complete a deal, cancel through the app as early as possible so the other person isn’t left waiting.
- Don’t ghost. If plans change, communicate.
Consequence: A pattern of cancellations or no-shows will affect your reliability rating and may result in temporary restrictions on your ability to make or accept offers. Your completion rate is visible to other users.
3. Be Respectful
TamuKu! is a community of real people. Treat everyone the way you’d want to be treated.
- Be polite and courteous in all communications.
- No harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation.
- No hate speech, discrimination, or derogatory language based on race, religion, gender, nationality, or any other characteristic.
- No unsolicited sexual content or inappropriate messages.
- Respect people’s time — respond to messages promptly, especially if you have an active deal.
Consequence: Harassment or abusive behaviour will result in immediate warnings or account suspension, depending on severity. Serious cases will result in a permanent ban.
4. Transact Safely
Your safety matters. TamuKu! provides tools to help protect you — please use them.
- Use the in-app chat for all deal-related conversations. This creates a record that can be referenced if anything goes wrong. Off-platform chats (WhatsApp, DMs) cannot be used in disputes.
- Use the offer system. Formalising your agreement through the app protects both parties and creates a clear record of the agreed price.
- Meet in public places. TamuKu! suggests safe meetup spots by district — use them. Avoid inviting strangers to your home.
- Inspect before you pay. Always check the item thoroughly before completing the transaction. Once a deal is marked as complete, it’s final.
- Trust your instincts. If a deal feels too good to be true, or if a user is pressuring you, walk away and report them.
5. Prohibited Content and Items
The following are strictly forbidden on TamuKu!:
- Illegal items under Brunei law, including alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, controlled substances, and gambling equipment.
- Items violating Sharia law as applicable in Brunei Darussalam.
- Stolen, counterfeit, or pirated goods.
- Weapons, explosives, or dangerous materials.
- Wildlife or products from protected/endangered species.
- Personal data, accounts, passwords, or identity documents.
- Adult or sexually explicit content.
- Spam, scam listings, or phishing attempts.
- Duplicate listings of the same item posted multiple times to flood the feed.
Consequence: Prohibited listings are removed immediately. Depending on severity, the user may receive a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent ban. Listings involving illegal activity may be reported to relevant authorities.
6. Fair Reviews
Reviews help the community make informed decisions. Keep them honest and constructive.
- Only leave reviews for transactions you actually participated in.
- Be specific about what went well or what could be improved.
- Don’t use reviews to harass, threaten, or blackmail other users.
- Don’t offer incentives (money, items, Kupangs) in exchange for positive reviews.
- Don’t create fake accounts to leave yourself reviews.
Consequence: Fraudulent or abusive reviews will be removed. Users who manipulate the review system face account suspension.
7. Events and Food Shop Standards
If you’re an event organiser or food shop operator, you have additional responsibilities:
- Ensure all event information (date, time, location, stallholder details) is accurate and kept up to date.
- Food sellers must provide truthful information about ingredients, allergens, dietary suitability, and preparation methods.
- Comply with all applicable Brunei laws and regulations, including food safety, hygiene, and business licensing requirements.
- If your event is cancelled or your shop is temporarily closed, update your listing immediately.
Consequence: TamuKu! does not verify halal status, food safety compliance, or business licences. These are the sole responsibility of the seller or operator.
8. Notice-Board
The Notice-Board is a casual community board on the home screen, and the whole board is wiped clean every midnight for a fresh start each day. Keep it friendly and relevant:
- Use it for quick community notes — shout-outs, wanted requests, lost and found, recommendations, small announcements.
- Don’t post full items for sale here — create a proper listing instead. You may link one of your own listings to a note.
- You can have one note on the board at a time, and every note clears at midnight when the board resets — so make today’s note count.
- Keep notes contact-free: no phone numbers, WhatsApp, or external links — connect through in-app chat instead. (This is stricter than the rest of TamuKu, where sharing contact info is fine; the Notice-Board stays contact-free to curb spam and scams.)
- The same content rules also apply: no scams, prohibited items, or offensive content.
- Report any note that breaks these rules with the report button on the note.
Consequence: Notes that violate these guidelines are removed and count toward your account standing, the same as any other content.
9. Reporting and Moderation
If you see something that violates these guidelines, report it. Every report is reviewed by our moderation team, and we act on reports of objectionable content or abusive users within 24 hours.
- Use the report button on any listing or user profile.
- Provide as much detail as possible when reporting.
- Do not abuse the reporting system by filing false reports against users you have personal disagreements with.
- Block any user from their profile to immediately stop them from messaging you.
Consequence: TamuKu! reserves the right to take action on any account at its sole discretion, including content removal, warnings, temporary restrictions, or permanent bans.
10. Enforcement
TamuKu! uses a combination of automated systems and human review to enforce these guidelines. Actions we may take include:
- Content removal — listings or messages that violate guidelines are removed.
- Warnings — visible indicators on your profile alerting other users.
- Temporary restrictions — limits on making offers, listing items, or messaging.
- Account suspension or ban — for serious or repeated violations.
Consequence: The severity of enforcement is proportional to the violation. We consider the nature of the violation, your history on the platform, and the impact on other users. We won’t share the specific details of our enforcement system to prevent it from being exploited.
Thank you for being part of TamuKu! — let's build a marketplace Brunei can be proud of.
